Is the threat of a nuclear war a reality today? - lecture with Gunnar Westberg
The Society of International Affairs (UF) invites You to a lecture with Gunnar Westberg, on Monday 18th Feb!
"If a terrorist knew what I know of our system for control and command of nuclear weapons he could start the third world war" is an often used quote from a Russian general. Today, the risk of a global nuclear war is probably very small, but not zero.
A nuclear war between India and Pakistan is more likely, and if more countries acquire nuclear weapons the risk of a regional nuclear war increases. Even a “small" war, where only one per cent of the world’s nuclear arsenal is used, would cause a global starvation catastrophe because of the large amount of soot in the stratosphere.
Gunnar Westberg was President of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War 2004-2008. He has in later years travelled to India, Pakistan, Iran, North Korea and other countries, promoting nuclear abolition.
Please note that the lecture is held on a Monday!
Entrance fee - 20 kr, free for members of UF.
Membership is 50 kr for one year, and can be paid at the entrance.
