A critical view of asylum procedures in Denmark and Sweden
UF Malmö welcomes Michala Clante Bendixen from the Danish humanitarian organization, Refugees Welcome, located in Copenhagen.Michala Clante Bendixen will be giving us a critical view of the asylum procedures in Denmark and Sweden.
International and European conventions give persons who face persecution in their home country the right to asylum in another country. But how is the distinction done - who should stay and who should go? Focusing on the Danish asylum procedure - with reference to the Swedish system. She will highlight the weaknesses in the asylum assessment procedures; sharing with us the reality of people who have being caught in between states from both a national and international perspective.
Michala Clante Bendixen is a graphic designer, who has been working voluntarily with refugees for many years. She plays an active role in the public discussions about refugee politics and as the chairman of the organization 'Refugees Welcome' she has knowledge of a large number of concrete cases. In 2011 she published a report entitled "Asylum camp Limbo" on hindrances to deportation and in 2013 "The Character of Exception" on humanitarian residence permit.
