UF Malmö is proud to present Naimeh Doostdar, journalist, women's activist, and a winner of Nöjesguiden Malmö for Best Author 2013. Naimeh will be giving a lecture on the portrayal and activity of women in the journalistic field in Iran. Women's rights movements have been a rather turbulent activity in the political history of Iran, and in recent years women’s rights have been declining. In this lecture she will discuss how the Iranian media portrays women; how women are active in this field; and she will also tell us about some of her personal experiences as a journalist in Iran.
Naeimeh Doustdar, born in 1977 in Tehran, Iran, has earned a bachelors degree in Persian language and literature at the University of Tehran. She continued her education and obtained a MA degree in this field at the Research Centre of Humanities and Cultural Studies.
She started working as a journalist in high school and has continued with this profession. Working in several magazines and newspapers she has held a variety of positions in print and online medias since 1997. She has worked for well-known newspapers in Iran such as Hamshahri, and has remarkable experience in radio program production and broadcasting - which has been awarded national prizes in the field of journalism. However, following political tensions since 2009, she has been imprisoned for her journalistic activities and weblog notes which led to her fleeing the country.
Having moved to Malmö, as a guest writer, she is working as a freelance journalist; focusing on women issues and political affairs for online sources and media broadcasting.
At the event Naimeh will have some of her books for sale, if interested, please bring cash.
