UF Malmö is proud to introduce Natalia Lakso Vazquez, Frida Ekerlund, and Sara Linnea Svensson, who have been working with the proactive presence method in Guatemala and Mexico for the past year. They will speak from their experiences how it is possible for international presence in conflict-affected countries to prevent threats and violence against local peace actors.
During their work in Guatemala and Mexico they have met people who were exposed to harassment, dissappearances and murder due to their work for human rights. The three peace observers will talk about the general situation for human rights defenders in these two countries and also share more personal stories of the brave people they have accompanied.
Furthermore, they will discuss themes such as the historical genocide trial in Guatemala, the right to territory and indigenous rights in Mexico, and the lives and testimonies of the real heroes who have dared to stand up against oppression and work for peace and justice.
Natalia Lakso Vazquez has a master's degree in Political Science, with national economics as the main subject and focus on international- and development economics.
Frida Ekerlund graduated from a Global Studies Master Programme at Gothenburg University, focusing on critical gender and diversity research and globalization. She is also a former graduate of the Peace and Conflict Studies bachelor's programme at Malmö University.
Sara Linnea Svensson has a master's degree in Development Studies and Management, Lund Univesity. She got her bachelor's also from Lund University, in Political Science.
